What I Know... Essay

Pitbulls are thought of as mean, aggressive, and vicious dogs. Well that accusation is false, I know this because I have owned two pitbulls and have met many more since I was a baby. I will inform you why this is true.

From the first time that I can remember there has always has been a pitbull in my house. Indy, short for Independence was my first pitbull. Throughout her life she was a loving, loyal, and protective dog. One halloween a person threw a pumpkin at our door, so we sent Indy after him. When she got to him she made him stop in his tracks he was so scared. But She did not touch him or harm him simply scaring him so he wouldn’t do it again and it worked. This shows that pitbulls are protective of their own, but they are not aggressive. I know they aren’t aggressive dogs from personal experience.

I currently own a rescue pitbull, her name is Abby and her previous owner was abusive, neglectful, and not feeding her. When my family got her she was skin and bones so to speak, she was very skittish and flea ridden, you could drop or even pick up a broom and she would run. Also when I would give her food she would choke it down. Now she is at a healthy weight, no more fleas and is not as skittish anymore. Abby is super sweet, she loves everyone and she likes to be the center of attention. She has not hurt anyone, She only barks at the mailman but what dog doesn't.
This shows that pitbulls with good owner they are kind dogs and that they aren’t vicious animals. I know this from experience and owning pitbulls throughout my life.

There have been reports of pitbulls attacking people. These pitbulls do this because they were being abused not because its in their blood or they wanted to. Often times in dog fights pitbulls are most likely to be in one because they are powerful dogs. If a pitbull were to escape from one and crossed a person trying to help the dog it might have attacked the person. The pitbull wouldn’t attack on purpose but since they were just fighting for their lives it would be a habit and the pitbull probably thinks they are trying to return them so they are going to fight for survival. Pitbulls don’t do this on purpose they are simply trying to protect themselves to what they think is an attacker. It is not the pitbulls fault because it has been traumatized nor the person trying to help out they didn’t know. It is the people who put these dogs through hell just for money. I know this because if pitbulls were treated like any other normal dog they wouldn't be attacking people.

People scrutinize Pitbulls because of the stereotypes or things they hear about them. Sometimes when my sister is walking abby there will be a person walking towards us from the other way and when they see her they cross the street because they want to get out of the way. Then my sister will cross the street on to the other side. This tells me that they are afraid of Pitbulls or just don’t like them. Also sometimes I hear people talking about how mean Pitbulls are and when I ask them if they have ever met a pitbull they say no. I know that people are too lazy to look at the facts and they just believe what they hear because I have heard the same thing so many times. “Pitbulls are mean, one attacked a lady last year.” “Well have you ever met one?” “ No” I know that pitbulls are loving, loyal, and harmless dog but others are too lazy to find out for themselves.

I know that Pitbulls are loving, sweet, loyal, and harmless dogs from experience. Others don’t agree with me but that is because they have never met one. Don’t believe what others tell you until you find out the truth for yourself.
